Curry nights. That’s what the Light Blues Club of Jersey is all about, right? Well, it seems to be given the appetite of us Freemasons for a good bottle of Cobra and a decent Tikka Masala.
We’ve held very successful curry nights over the past year, mostly because they’re relaxed and informal. We even held a curry Q&A, which answered a few questions about Freemasonry some of us dare not ask in front of our more senior Brethren.
There’s more to the Club than a beer and curry though. Behind-the-scenes, we’ve designed and produced a Club crest, which is now proudly displayed in the Masonic dining room, and developed a new website.
We’ve also been active on Twitter and Facebook (more to come once the summer recess is over), organised the hugely successful Mannequin Challenge (over 1 million views!), provided articles for Regular Steps, and organised a fantastic write-up in a Jersey high-end publication, Lux, in which a number of Club members were photographed and interviewed (a link to the publication is here – our article appears on p34).
We have also recently sent a letter to all secretaries giving new initiates more details about the Club as soon as they join.
2017/2018 promises to be an even busier year. We’re planning another curry evening, a Mediterranean evening and more besides.
We’ll also be keeping you informed of all that’s going on in a regular email newsletter, including the Installation evenings of all our members so we can support them. (My installation for De Carteret Lodge, by the way, is on Tuesday 3rd October – please email me for tickets which are £20 each for dinner and beverages).
